Natural Looking Lips

Kiss Me
Lip Augmentation

No matter what type of product has been selected, or the technique used when performing lip augmentation, the results will often remain very similar – lips that often look overfilled, ‘duck-like’, uneven, fake, with product seen above the upper lip.

QueenOfTheSkin has developed her own lip augmentation technique, called ‘Kiss Me Lips’. The Kiss Me Lip Augmentation Technique is offered in Canberra and Sydney, and incorporates the highest quality, semi-permanent products, that are the longest lasting.

Kiss Me Lip Augmentation Technique vs other Lip Augmentation Techniques

When it comes to lip augmentation, a variety of techniques are employed. Although each lip augmentation technique varies, the same aesthetic result can be seen and that includes instant product migration above the upper lip, widening of the lower lip (causing a sausage looking lower-lip), and an overall ‘fake’ and ‘duck-like’ look. When product migrates above the lip, it not only distorts the Cupid’s Bow, but also pushes the upper lip down and forward. Overall, the lips look very fake, somewhat silly and simply distort the natural appearance of the lips.

When it comes to the Kiss Me Lip Augmentation technique, the objective of this treatment can be summarised in the following key points:

  • To enhance the natural shape of the lips.
  • Provide fuller, more plump looking lips.
  • Create definition in the Cupid’s Bow and frame the lower lip – this will provide crisp lip edges, which will help to decrease the appearance of lines found above the upper lip, frame the lips which will also decrease lipstick bleeding around the lips.
  • Elevate the Cupid’s Bow (also referred to as a Non-Surgical Lip Lift), to reduce the gap between the tip of the nose and the top of the upper lip.
  • To drop the mid-section of the lower lip to create a fuller lower-lip, rather then injecting the whole lower lip and elongating the lip which causes a ‘sausage’ effect, making the lower lip look smaller.

What is the Kiss Me Lip Augmentation Technique?

The Kiss Me Lip Augmentation technique incorporates the use of semi-permanent product, that is primarily injected on the inside of the upper lip, within the Cupids’ Bow boarder and also injected in the mid-section of the lower lip. This technique will provide a crisp Cupid’s Bow boarder and an overall natural enhancement to the lips, thus providing an optimal aesthetic result. Because of the very firm, semi-permanent product being injected, along with the unique placement of the product within the lips, the product will remain where it is placed – this product will Not migrate outside of the lips.

Non-Surgical Lip Lift with Kiss Me Lips

One of the many benefits of the Kiss Me Lip Augmentation technique is the use of product to elevate the upper lip, also known as a Non-Surgical Lip Lift. Semi-permanent product is injected on the inside of the upper lip, specifically in the corners of the mouth – this forces the whole upper lip up. Because the semi-permanent product is so firm, the product will remain where it is placed. It is important to note that while the product is very firm, the product will settle within the lips and feel quite natural.

Gummy Smile treatment with Kiss Me Lip Augmentation Technique

The upper lip has a tendency to invert in and for some induvial, the lip inversion can be very mild to severe, which can lead to the upper lip disappearing upon smiling – this can also result in more teeth and gums being seen – this is known as a gummy Smile.

The Kiss Me Lip Augmentation technique was designed specifically to address the concerns that one might have with a gummy smile. Semi-permanent product is injected in the inside of the upper lip, which will create a barrier to prevent the lips from reseeding back and under. In addition, the upper lip is lengthened vertically, within the pigmented area itself – other lip augmentation techniques simply inflate the upper lip (and surrounding area), which leads to product sitting above the upper lip.

Types of Products and Associated Costs

When it comes to lip augmentation, there are three general product categories: thin products, medium products and semi-permanent products.

 – Thin Products

Thin products are offered marketed as the cheapest products, that can range in price from $350-$450 per ml. Thin products are designed to last 3-4months. These products are very thin and when injected into the lips, can spread above and below the lips – this is termed product migration, and is often migration that has occurred during the treatment. This will in the instant distortion of the Cupid’s Bow and surrounding lips.

We would advise against the use of this type of product when injecting into the lips.

 – Medium Products

Medium products are offered as a more premium lip augmentation treatment, as they have a slightly larger molecular structure, meaning that these products are thicker. The cost for medium products can range anywhere from $490-$660 per ml. Medium products are designed to last 6-9months. Although medium products are a thicker product, the product will often migrate (spread) around the mouth, when injecting this product into the lips. This will again result in instant product migration and the distortion of the Cupid’s Bow and surrounding lips.

We would advise against the use of this type of product when injecting into the lips.

 – Semi-Permanent Products

As a general rule, semi-permanent products are used by vary few cosmetic injectors, when treating the lips. This is because semi-permanent products are very firm and very unforgiving if incorrectly placed in the lips. Only the most experienced and skilled injectors have the ability to lay such a firm and complex product into the lips. Semi-Permanent products when injected correctly, will not move. This means that when semi-permanent products are injected into the lips, it will NOT migrate above the upper lip, or anywhere around the mouth. Semi-Permanent products are design to last 18-24 months however, given that the lips are highly vascular and reabsorb the product faster than other areas of the face, we recommend a touch-up every 12 – 18 months.

Have you had your Lips Injected previously?

If you have had lip augmentation elsewhere, it is important that you are aware that you will almost certainly require lip dissolving, prior to having the Kiss Me Lip Augmentation treatment. Over the years, every single patient that we have assessed in-clinic, who has had lip augmentation at another clinic, has had a certain degree of Hyaluronic Acid product above the upper lip, and in some cases have a bubbly bottom lip. You must be aware that even patients who have had lip augmentation elsewhere 10 years ago, have still shown signs of product lingering above the upper lip. While lip augmentation is not designed to last more than a couple of years within the lips, when the product has migrated above the upper lip, it can last a decade, often longer.

Of course, you will be required to attend an in-person consultation so that we can assess your lips, prior to any treatment being performed. It is within this consultation that we can confirm if you will in fact require lip dissolving.

Lip Augmentation Dissolving due to Poor Aesthetic Results

The majority of patients that have visited our Canberra and Sydney based clinics, who have had lip augmentation elsewhere, have required lip dissolving. The lip product dissolving treatment is fast, and the product will be noticeably dissolved within approximately 24 hours following your treatment. In some cases, two or three dissolving sessions maybe required – the number of dissolving sessions is dependent on the amount of product that is sitting above the upper lip and the degree of product in the lower lip. With that said, while our aim is to restore the lips to a more natural state, we try to maintain some of the existing product in the lips, if and where possible.

The cost for lip dissolving is $250 per treatment.

What will my lips look like after having them dissolved?

Lip dissolving involves the injection of an enzyme, designed to breakdown the product. Because the enzyme is injected into the lips, localised trauma can occur which means you should expect to see swelling and bruising occur immediately after the treatment and/or within the following hours or days after treatment. Whilst the bulk of the swelling should settle within the first 24 hours, bruising can linger for days or weeks after treatment.

What to expect on the day of my Kiss Me Lip Augmentation treatment

Prior to your Kiss Me Lip Augmentation treatment, you will be consulted by a Cosmetic Registered Nurse Injector and the Prescribing Doctor, to review your health history (including any contraindications) and discuss with you the benefits and risks associated with the Kiss Me Lip Augmentation treatment.

After your initial consultation, and providing you wish to proceed with treatment, you will be required to attend your Kiss Me Lip Augmentation appointment one hour prior to your scheduled appointment – this is so topical anaesthetic can be applied to numb your lips which will ensure that you are made as comfortable as possible. In addition, ice packs can be used to provide more comfort and reduce the risk of bruising.

After your lips have been numbed for an hour, your Cosmetic Injector will take you through to the treatment room. It is at this time that your injector will reiterate the treatment plan and the potential risks and after care instructions, and with your consent, commence treatment.

When your treatment has concluded, you will be provided with the product card which contains the product details, – you will also be provided with written aftercare instructions. In addition, your Cosmetic Injector will request that you send an image via our email, no more than four hours following treatment, to ensure that the treated areas are looking as expected following your lip augmentation treatment.

What will I look like after my Kiss Me Lip Augmentation treatment

Your lips will be noticeably red, swollen and bruised. The swelling will get worse the night of treatment and will often become even more swollen the following day after your treatment. One day one following your treatment, the swelling should begin to reduce. Usually by day three, most of the swelling will have settled. By day four, you would expect to love the appearance of your lips, and on day seven, the lips should have fully settled. We often tell our patients that once the lips have settled, it is likely that you will require more product in your lips.

Potential Side Effects

Every non-surgical procedure including lip augmentation, involves a certain amount of risk – it is important that you understand these risks and the possible complications associated with each treatment.

While the majority of patients do not experience the following, it is very important that you are ware of the more server potential side effects and discuss these potential side effects with your treating practitioner – this includes your Prescribing Doctor and the treating Registered Nurse. Only once you have had a detailed conversation with your Prescribing Doctor and your treating Registered Nurse, prior to your treatment, can you make an informed decision as to how you proceed with your treatment.

The most common side effects can occur immediately following your treatment or in some cases be delayed and can worsen over the coming hours and/or days following your treatment. Some of the most common side effects include but are not limited to the following:

  • Inflammatory Reactions (swelling, Skin redness)
  • Bruising
  • Bleeding/Haematoma
  • Itchiness
  • Tenderness
  • Paraesthesia/Numbness

Other adverse reactions may include:

  • Infections including abscesses, granuloma, and localised hypersensitivity
  • Induration or nodules
  • Skin Discoloration
  • Weak feeling effect

You will also need to consider the extremely rare but serious adverse events associated with intravascular injection of products that have been reported and include temporary and permanent visual impairment, blindness, cerebral ischemia or cerebral haemorrhage, leading to stroke, skin necrosis, and damage to underlying structures.

Post-Procedure Care

The following are very common side effects after treatment and should resolve with time.

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Puncture Marks
  • Asymmetry
  • Tenderness
  • Hardness
  • Tightness
  • Itching

To prevent and/or help minimise any bruising after your treatment:

  • Application of a cold compress to the treatment area immediately and for at least 15minutes after.
  • The regular intermittent application of cold packs during the first 24-48 hours may be beneficial. A cycle to consider is 10min on and 5min off.
  • Sleep with the head elevated for the first evening.
  • Vigorous exercise can increase blood pressure and aggravate any bruising that is developing – therefore, exercise should be avoided for the first 24 hours.
  • You should avoid extreme heat for the first 24hrs (or until bruising has resolved).
  • Topical creams that may help with bruising – reduction in the development and helping in the resolution.
  • Arnica cream – apply liberally to affected area 3-4x per day until resolution
  • Vitamin k cream – apply liberally to affected area 3-4x per day until resolution

Final Results

Your final results can take 2-4 weeks. As a general rule, a minimum of two mls of product is required for virgin lips and three-four mls of product will be required for lips that have undergone lip dissolving.
