What is Acne?

Acne is caused by the Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes) bacteria which resides in the skin’s Sebaceous glands. As the Sebaceous gland secretes sebum (oil) to lubricate the skin and hair, the bacteria can cause an infection.

What is involved?

Queen of The Skin has designed a unique treatment approach that utilises Laser, Skin Needling and Light Emitting Diode Therapy (LED) to provide you with the best Acne treatment outcomes.

Firstly, our leading-edge laser technology is the only laser device designed to specifically target the Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes) bacteria and shrink the Sebaceous glands in the skin without causing damage to surrounding skin tissue. Our laser focuses on destroying such bacteria within each session which will result in the pimple scabbing over and clearing within days post treatment.

Secondly, skin needling is performed immediately after the laser treatment to cause light ‘trauma’ to the skin. Once trauma has occurred, your skin cells will act rapidly to heal and repair the pimple sores thus, reducing associated redness and scarring rapidly within a few days. Skin needling is also effective in shrinking pores which will help prevent the development of more pimples.

Lastly, Light Emitting Diode Therapy (LED) will be employed a few days post laser and skin needling treatment. LED works by jump-starting the new cells that have been created using laser and skin needling with pulses of light energy, which excites new cell growth within the skin. The cells convert the light energy into fuel which stimulates the production of proteins and lipids – essential for building and repairing the skin.

This treatment approach will target the bacteria in the skin, significantly reduce skin redness and scarring, shrink the pores within the skin and ultimately, provide a much clearer and more even skin tone.

How long does the procedure take?

The acne treatment takes around 1 hour. Please allow an additional 30 minutes if you wish to be consulted and treated within the same visit – this will allow time to complete a Patient Registration Form, receive a thorough skin assessment and consultation, and to discuss the procedure and post-care instructions.

How many treatments will I require?

Improvements in your acne condition will be seen shortly after your first treatment. However, this is an iterative treatment process, and a regular course of laser treatment is required to optimise results.

Is the treatment painful?

Typically, anaesthetic is not required. The treatment is often termed ‘comfortable’, being tolerated well among most age groups. However, if you would like anaesthetic, we are able to provide topical and local anaesthetic options designed to completely numb the area to be treated.

Post-treatment results

Following your treatment there will be some redness and possible swelling on and around the treated areas for up to 72 hours. In addition, a temporary scab will form, and this is a natural part of the treatment process and the scabbing will usually fall off within 7-10 days. Once the scab has fallen off, the area will be red (due to new capillary formation to heal and repair the treated area), and over several months, the redness will dissipate.
