What is a Dermatofibroma?

Dermatofibroma is a non-cancerous, small skin lesion that contains an overgrowth of fibroblast cells. Dermatofibromas range in colour from grey, pink, red or brown and are commonly found on the upper and lower legs and trunk of the body.

Dermatofibroma removal procedure

Queen of the Skin has been successfully removing Dermatofibromas for over 12 years using our state-of-the-art laser technology. Our laser device has been designed with a small pen-tip head, shaped to specifically target the Dermatofibroma without causing damage to surrounding skin tissue.

What do I need to do prior to my appointment?

You will need to see your General Practitioner (GP), who must be trained in skin cancer medicine, to arrange a skin cancer assessment of your Dermatofibroma at least two weeks prior to your scheduled laser procedure. It is important to have your Dermatofibroma checked by your GP to ensure that to the best of their knowledge, the lesion is benign (cancer free).

When Dermatofibroma is removed by laser, the lesion is completely disintegrated, meaning there is no residual tissue left that can be sent to pathology for testing at a later date. Having the Dermatofibroma checked by your GP prior to laser treatment is an essential requirement.

Note: Queen of The Skin does not provide skin cancer diagnosis as part of its Dermatofibroma treatment.

Once your Dermatofibroma has been examined by your GP, you must bring a copy of your referral letter to your laser clinic appointment.

Benefits of laser removal of Dermatofibroma

Our laser removal of Dermatofibroma eliminates the need to cut the skin and therefore eliminates the use of sutures and dressings.

While some scarring can occur post-laser removal of a Dermatofibroma, this is usually seen as a pale white colour, no larger than the Dermatofibroma itself. However, the skin heals very well and, in most cases, once the treated area has healed, you will not be able to detect the original location of the Dermatofibroma

How long does the procedure take?

The laser mole removal procedure takes only a minute or two, however, we allow 30 minutes for your appointment as this will allow time to complete a patient registration form, receive a consultation and discuss the procedure and post-care instructions.

How many treatments will I require?

Our state-of-the-art laser technology facilitates the removal of Dermatofibroma immediately at the time of treatment.

Is the treatment painful?

The treatment is often termed ‘uncomfortable’ and is tolerated well among most age groups. This is due to the speed and precision in which the Dermatofibroma is removed. However, we do offer topical and local anaesthetic options as requested by our patients.

Post treatment results

Following your treatment there will be some redness and possible swelling on and around the treated areas for up to 72 hours. In addition, a temporary scab will form, and this is a natural part of the treatment process and the scabbing will usually fall off within 7-10 days. Once the scab has fallen off, the area will be red (due to new capillary formation) and over several months, the redness will dissipate.

Post Care

You will be requested to send an image of the treated area 3 days post treatment, 2 weeks post treatment and again, 6 weeks post treatment. This is to ensure that the treated area is healing well and that you have kept the scab intact. If at any time you have questions or concerns, you should contact our clinic to arrange a face-to-face appointment.

During the healing process, you can wear makeup to conceal the treated area and we will recommend the best types of makeup to be used.

If required, you will be provided with topical cream that will provide nutrients to accelerate the skin healing process. In addition, we also offer Light Emitting Diode Treatments (LED) to

accelerate the healing process.

You will also be provided with a Post-Care Form and verbal instructions to care for the treated area.

In summary, our laser dermatofibromas removal service is a proven, safe and effective way to beautify your face and other body parts.
