Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty is a procedure that uses Hyaluronic Acid to ‘conceal’ a dorsal hump, elevate the tip of the nose, and make other adjustments to improve the appearance of the nasal contour and provide a more balanced facial profile.

QueenofTheSkin has an eye for detail and also an ability to assess a patient’s nose and place Hyaluronic Acid in a way that is undetectable – this requires both an inherent talent, skill and a high degree of training and experience.

How does it work?

Semi-Permanent Hyaluronic Acid is used to ‘conceal’ a dorsal hump, found on the bridge of the nose and often more visible on one’s side profile, and elevated the nose tip. The combination of concealing the dorsal hump and elevating the tip of the nose, will provide a much more well-defined front view of the nose, provide a smoother side profile. In addition, some patients will experience the tip of their nose dropping when they smile – this treatment can provide a more ‘lifted’ effected and decrease the nose from dropping down upon expression.

What Hyaluronic Acid product is used?

You may commonly see a variety of different Hyaluronic Acid products being used within cosmetic clinics. These Hyaluronic Acid products will range in cost and the cost will reflect the consistency of the product which will largely determine how long the product will last. There are three general Hyaluronic Acid product categories: Thin Hyaluronic Acid products, Medium Hyaluronic Acid products and Semi-Permanent Hyaluronic Acid products.

 – Thin Hyaluronic Acid Products

Thin Hyaluronic Acid products are offered marketed as the cheapest Hyaluronic Acid products, designed to last 3-4months. These Hyaluronic Acid products are very thin and when injected into the nose, are more likely to move when compared to Semi-Permanent Hyaluronic Acid products.

We would advise against the use of this type of product being used in a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Treatment.

 – Medium Hyaluronic Acid Products

Medium Hyaluronic Acid products are offered as a more premium Hyaluronic Acid product, as they have a slightly larger molecular structure, meaning that these products are thicker. Medium Hyaluronic Acid products are designed to last 6-9months. Although Medium Hyaluronic Acid products are a thicker product, the product can still migrate (spread) around the nose and loss the shape that is being created in the Non-Surgical Treatment.

We would advise against the use of this type of product being used in a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Treatment.

 – Semi-Permanent Hyaluronic Acid Products

Semi-Permanent Hyaluronic Acid products are very firm and very unforgiving if incorrectly placed in nose. Only the most experienced and skilled injectors have the ability to lay such a firm and complex Hyaluronic Acid product, into the bridge of the nose, without the product being detected. Semi-permanent Hyaluronic Acid when injected correctly, will have very little to no movement – this means that when Semi-Permanent Hyaluronic Acid is injected into the bridge of the nose is far less likely to move. Semi-Permanent Hyaluronic Acid products are design to last 18-24 months.

What Will I Look Like After Treatment?

Your nose will be noticeably red, swollen and bruised. The swelling will get worse the night of treatment and will often become even more swollen the following day after your treatment. One day one following your treatment, the swelling should begin to reduce. Usually by day three, most of the swelling will have settled however, bruising may still remain for days or weeks following your treatment.

Potential Side Effects

Every non-surgical procedure involves a certain amount of risk. In fact, Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty treatment is deemed to have more serious risk involved so it is important that you understand these risks and the possible complications associated with each treatment.

While the majority of patients do not experience the following, it is very important that you are ware of the more server potential side effects and discuss these potential side effects with your treating practitioner – this includes your prescribing doctor and the treating registered nurse. Only once you have had a detailed conversation with your prescribing doctor and your treating registered nurse, prior to your treatment, can you make an informed decision as to how you proceed with your cosmetic injectable treatment.

The most common side effects can occur immediately following your treatment or in some cases be delayed and can worsen over the coming hours and/or days following your treatment. Some of the most common side effects include but are not limited to the following:

  • Inflammatory Reactions (swelling, Skin redness)
  • Bruising
  • Bleeding/Haematoma
  • Itchiness
  • Tenderness
  • Paraesthesia/Numbness

Other adverse reactions may include:

  • Infections including abscesses, granuloma, and localised hypersensitivity
  • Induration or nodules
  • Skin Discoloration
  • Weak feeling effect

You will also need to consider the extremely rare but serious adverse events associated with intravascular injection of Hyaluronic Acid product that have been reported and include temporary and permanent visual impairment, blindness, cerebral ischemia or cerebral haemorrhage, leading to stroke, skin necrosis, and damage to underlying structures.

Post-Procedure Care

The following are very common side effects after Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty treatment and should resolve with time.

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Puncture Marks
  • Asymmetry
  • Tenderness
  • Hardness
  • Tightness
  • Itching

To prevent and/or help minimise any bruising after your treatment:

  • Application of a cold compress to the treatment area immediately and for at least 15minutes after.
  • The regular intermittent application of cold packs during the first 24-48 hours may be beneficial. A cycle to consider is 10min on and 5min off.
  • Sleep with the head elevated for the first evening.
  • Vigorous exercise can increase blood pressure and aggravate any bruising that is developing – therefore, exercise should be avoided for the first 24 hours.
  • You should avoid extreme heat for the first 24hrs (or until bruising has resolved).
  • Topical creams that may help with bruising – reduction in the development and helping in the resolution.
  • Arnica cream – apply liberally to affected area 3-4x per day until resolution
  • Vitamin k cream – apply liberally to affected area 3-4x per day until resolution
